Inspection Report
2007 Inspection Report
Below is the summary of our OFSTED inspection carried out in May 2007. The full report can be downloaded below. As a school we are delighted with the report, which has shown us to be a very good school high standards of teaching and learning being very good. Well done to everyone connected with the school who assisted in showing us to be of such a high standard.
Overall effectiveness of the school Grade: very good
The school provides a very good quality of education with very strong leadership and good management which ensures that the school is on an upward trend. It has a very good capacity to improve further. Pupils achieve very well and standards in English, mathematics and science are well above average. The very effective cross-curricular approach means pupils achieve very successfully across the curriculum. Children are given a very effective grounding in the Foundation Stage (nursery and reception classes). In particular there is a strong focus on communication, language and literacy to ensure that pupils are articulate and confident communicators. This is a significant achievement given the high proportion of pupils who do not speak English as their first language. This contributes to the high overall standards in all subjects.
The Head Teacher has developed a very effective team of teachers and with his deputy has introduced systems and procedures to continue to develop the school to enable it to grow and improve. Although the development of assessment procedures is in its early stages it is beginning to have a positive effect on standards and achievement. Further development will mean that teachers will have an even better understanding of how well pupils are learning and what they need to do next to improve. The roles of Foundation Stage and subject coordinators are embryonic and there is scope for these to be developed in the future. The curriculum is very well established and is creatively designed to meet the needs of all pupils; challenge them and make learning fun.
The quality of teaching and learning is consistently very good and underpins the high quality of education offered. Teachers work very much as a team and lessons are thoroughly planned and teachers form excellent relationships with their pupils.
